Moving from Israel to the Czech Republic in 2026: Your Essential Guide to a Smooth Relocation

Prague has long been a favorite destination for Israelis—whether for a long weekend of history and culture or as a strategic hub for business. However, in 2026, we are seeing a significant shift. More and more Israeli professionals, tech experts, and families are looking to exchange the Mediterranean bustle for the stability, safety, and central European lifestyle of the Czech Republic.

At Move to Prague, we’ve helped hundreds of Israeli clients navigate this journey. We understand the unique challenges you face, from document authentication to the specifics of the current geopolitical visa landscape.

The First Step: Nationality and the "Dual Citizenship" Factor

Before we dive into visa types, we must address a specific detail that often comes up in our consultations. Israeli citizens enjoy a visa-free regime for tourism (up to 90 days), but long-term relocation is a different story.

A note on birthplaces and dual citizenship

Many of our Israeli clients were born in Russia or former USSR countries. It is important to be aware that as of 2026, the Czech Republic maintains strict restrictions regarding Russian citizens (due to the ongoing government resolutions).

If you hold both Israeli and Russian passports: This is currently a significant hurdle (and often a "hard stop") for most long-term visa applications.

If you were born in Russia/USSR but only hold Israeli citizenship: While not an automatic denial, it does complicate the process. The Ministry of Interior conducts much more thorough background checks, which can lead to longer processing times or higher scrutiny.

Because we value your time, we always recommend an initial assessment of your documents to qualify your chances before you invest in the full process.

The Most Popular Path: The Czech Digital Nomad Visa

For the majority of our Israeli clients—especially those working in IT, Software Development, or Marketing - the Digital Nomad Visa is the "gold standard."

Israel is one of the few countries included in the official Czech Digital Nomad program. This is the fastest and most reliable way for tech-savvy Israelis to move.

Why it’s perfect for Israelis:

Work Remotely: You can keep your foreign employer or your international clients.

Speed: The program is designed to be faster than standard business visas.

Moving with Family: Family Reunification Visa

We understand that many are moving not just for work, but for the safety of their families. If one family member secures a Digital Nomad Visa or an Employee Card, the rest of the family (spouse and children) can apply for Family Reunification.

Prague offers a fantastic array of international schools and a very high level of safety, making it one of the best places in Europe to raise children. We assist with the entire "family package", ensuring that the whole family can come here at the same time.

Corporate Paths: Employee Cards and Blue Cards

If you aren't a freelancer and instead have a job offer from a Czech company (or are being relocated by your employer), there are two main paths for you:

1. Employee Card: The standard "work permit". It is tied to a specific job position registered in the Czech labor database. Read more in our Employee Card Guide. Israeli citizens also have free access to Czech labor market since a few years ago which makes the employee card process easier and more straightforward.

2. EU Blue Card: Reserved for highly qualified professionals with a university degree and a high salary (at least 1.5x the Czech average). It offers more flexibility for moving within the EU later on, and offers more options for family members. Read more in our Blue Card Guide

What About a Business Visa (Živno)?

While many Israelis run successful businesses, the standard Business Visa (purpose of entrepreneurship) is often the most difficult to obtain from abroad.

Unless you have a clear link to the Czech market (local clients or a physical office here), the authorities are often skeptical. For those running global businesses with no Czech ties, the Digital Nomad Visa mentioned above is almost always a better, more secure entry point.
