Moving from Dubai to the Czech Republic

Moving from the glitz of Dubai to Europe is a transition many wealthy expats are considering in 2026. While the Burj Khalifa and the tax-free lifestyle have their charm, there is a certain "soul" and historical richness in Europe that high-net-worth individuals find increasingly attractive.

Specifically, the Czech Republic has emerged as a premier destination for those looking to swap the desert heat for a central European lifestyle. But why exactly are successful professionals and entrepreneurs making this move?

Why Wealthy Expats Are Choosing the Czech Republic

Moving to the Czech Republic from Dubai isn’t primarily about the cost of living—though the fact that your money stretches significantly further here than in Dubai, London, or Paris is a nice perk. It’s about quality of life and safety.

Safety & Stability: The Czech Republic consistently ranks as one of the safest countries in the world. For families, the peace of mind that comes with walking through Prague at midnight is priceless.

Central Location: You are in the heart of the continent. A weekend in Vienna, shopping in Paris, or skiing in the Alps is just a few hours' drive or a short flight away.

Cultural Depth: Unlike the "newness" of Dubai, Prague offers centuries of history, world-class opera, and an architectural backdrop that feels like a living museum.

Investment Opportunity: The real estate market and the growing tech sector offer sophisticated investors plenty of room to grow their capital in a stable EU environment.

Understanding the Visa Landscape

Before you pack your bags, the first step is understanding your "entry ticket." Your path to the Czech Republic depends heavily on your citizenship.

Visa-Free Nationalities

If you hold a passport from a "visa-free" country (such as the USA, Canada or UK), you can typically enter the Czech Republic for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism. If you intend to stay, live, or work, you must apply for a long-term visa or a long-term residence permit.

Most visa-free nationalities also have the advantage of being able to apply for their Czech visa through any Czech Embassy in the world. This part makes the whole process of moving from Dubai to the Czech Republic was easier and smoother compared to nationalities that require visa even for short stays.

Nationalities Requiring a Visa

If you are a citizen of a country that does not have a visa-waiver agreement with the EU (including many third-country nationals living in Dubai), you will need to apply for a Schengen Visa just to enter, and a Long-term Visa or Residence Permit to stay.

You can also generally only apply for y long-term visa or a residence permit in the country of origin or in a country where you have been legally residing for more than 2 years. For example, if you are a Filipino living in Dubai for a year, you will have to apply for any Czech visa in the Philippines. If you have been in Dubai for more than 2 years, you can do it either in the Philippines or in Abu Dhabi.

Top Visa Options for the High-Net-Worth Expats

If you are moving from Dubai, you likely aren't looking for any job at all. And if you are open to getting a local job, it would very likely fall under the Blue Card program. Here are the most relevant pathways for 2026:

1. The Digital Nomad Visa

If you work in IT or marketing and earn a high income from clients outside the Czech Republic, this is your best bet. It is also the only visa option that does not require you to have any ties to the Czech Republic.

Income Requirement: You must prove a monthly income of at least 1.5 of Czech national average (roughly 70 000 CZK a month, or approx. 3 500 USD a month).

The Perk: It’s a fast-track program designed to get high-skilled remote workers into the country with less red tape.

Read more about this option in our Digital Nomad Guide.

2. The EU Blue Card (For Highly Skilled Professionals)

Ideal for those who have been offered a high-level executive or specialist position in a Czech-based company.

Salary Requirement: Your gross annual salary must be at least 1.5 times the national average—for 2026, this means at least around 70 000 CZK per month.

The Perk: It offers easier family reunification and a path to permanent residency across the EU.

3. The Business Visa (Živno)

This option is a bit tricky since it requires you to have business ties to the Czech Republic - either local clients or a very solid business plan for the Czech Republic.

If you obtain it though, it offers a lot of flexibility.

4. EU Family Members

If you are a non-EU citizen but your spouse or a partner (yes, even couples just "dating" qualify) is an EU citizen, your path is significantly easier. You can apply for a Temporary Residence Permit for a family member of an EU citizen.

Depending on your situation, you can obtain up to 5 years of residence permit right away which is tied just to your significant other, not to your job or business.
