Family Relocation to Prague: Moving Your Whole World, Not Just Yourself
July 25, 2026
Quick summary: Move To Prague helps families relocate together - securing visas for you, your spouse, and your children, then finding a family-sized apartment, arranging health insurance for everyone, guiding your school choice, and handling residence registration. One team manages the whole move, so you can focus on your kids, not the paperwork.
Moving alone is a project. Moving a family is a small expedition. Suddenly it's not just your visa - it's your partner's, your children's, the right neighbourhood, the right school, insurance for everyone, and a home big enough for the whole crew. The good news: Prague is a wonderful place to raise a family, and this is exactly the kind of move we love to get right.
Getting the whole family a visa
The key concept here is family reunification. Typically one family member applies for/holds the "main" visa - say a Digital Nomad, Business/Freelance/Zivno Visa, or Employee Card - and the spouse and children join through a family-purpose application.
Get the main case right and the family cases usually follow smoothly. Get it wrong and everyone is stuck. That's why doing this as one coordinated application, not four separate scrambles, matters so much. Learn more in our guide on bringing a non-EU family member to the Czech Republic.
A home that fits your family
A studio near the office won't cut it when there are kids and a school run involved. We help you find a family-sized apartment in the right neighborhood - close to good schools, parks, and transport - and handle the landlord, the contract, and the Czech-language fine print. More about Prague Neighbourhoods here and about our services in this regards here.
Schools: one of your biggest decisions
Prague has an excellent range of international schools (English, and other languages too), plus strong local and bilingual options. Choosing depends on your kids' ages, how long you're staying, and your budget. We help you understand the landscape and time your applications so your children have a spot when you arrive - one of the most stressful pieces if you leave it late.
Health insurance for every family member
Every family member needs valid health coverage from day one, and children have their own requirements. We arrange the right policies for the whole family so nobody has a gap. See our Everything you Need to Know about Czech Health Insurance guide.
Everything else, handled
Bank accounts, Foreign Police registration, phone numbers, transport passes - the long tail of admin that's tedious for one person and overwhelming for a family. We coordinate it so your first month is about settling your kids in, not standing in queues.

FAQ - Family relocation to Prague
Can my whole family move to the Czech Republic together?
Yes. Usually one member holds the main visa and the spouse and children join via family reunification, ideally as one coordinated application.
Can my spouse work in the Czech Republic?
It depends on the visa type your family holds and on your nationality. A few nationalities have free access to Czech labor market which means spouses can work freely. For other nationalities, it might get a little tricky. We'll explain your spouse's work options as part of the initial consultation.
How do international schools in Prague work?
Prague has many international, bilingual, and local school options. Choice depends on your children's ages, your stay length, and budget - and applications should be timed early. We help you navigate it. Generally you shortlist schools, then go see the chosen schools, put in an application, go through an interview and if accepted, you cover the tuition.
Do my children need their own health insurance?
Yes, every family member needs valid coverage from day one, and children have specific requirements. Move To Prague arrange policies for the whole family.
How long does a family relocation take?
Usually 3-6 months end to end, depending on your nationality, the visa route, Embassy where you submit your applicaiton and how early school and housing are arranged. Starting early is the single best thing you can do.

I had a great experience with Move To Prague. Jan was very helpful during our first meeting and showed us so many places of interest, and reasons why we should choose Prague (we were unsure of where to move to). When it came to setting up my trade license, it was all very straightforward. Kristyna was amazing with this. Very responsive, incredibly kind, and extremely helpful. I would have never imagined the process of moving my business to be so easy. Thank you so much! 100% recommended.
