Blue Card salary requirements increase – Translation into real life

It is great to know these numbers, but what do they mean in real life?

Employers/Job advertisements for Blue Cards

The standard procedure for an employer to “sponsor someone” for a Blue Card is that the employer must advertise the open vacancy to the Labor Office. If they do it for the first time now, the job advertisement will only be accepted for Blue Cards if the offered salary is (or exceeds) the 69 248 CZK a month.

Old vacancies should be updated automatically by the Labor Office but in case they are not, employers should request increasing the salary if they want to be able to use these vacancies for their future employees.

New Blue Card applicants

If you are currently not holding a Blue Card and you want to apply for it (does not matter if from within the Czech Republic or through an Embassy), base salary in your employment contract must be at least the required amount (see above).

Blue Card holders

If you already hold a Blue Card and your salary is according to last year’s rules (roughly 65 000 CZK a month), your employer must increase your salary to the current requirement if they want to keep you under the Blue Card.

Blue Card holders – changing employers

If you plan on changing employers, salary with your new employer must also be above the requirements stated above.
