Blue Card Salary Requirement to Increase from May 1, 2026

This threshold is set to increase on May 1, 2026. Because this change significantly impacts new applicants, those currently in the approval process, and current holders looking to extend their stay, we’re digging deeper into the details below.

General Requirements for Czech Blue Card

The Czech Blue Card is one of the best residence permits available. It provides its holders with numerous benefits, such as:

• High Qualification: The position must be classified as "highly qualified."
• Education: The applicant must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree.
• Salary: The gross salary must be at least 1.5 times the Czech national average.

Salary Requirement For a Czech Blue Card - Increase in 2026

The national average is determined annually by an official notice from the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. This average salary is valid for one year, running from May 1 to April 30 of the following year.

This announcement sets both the monthly and yearly average salary. The actual required salary for a Blue Card is then calculated as 1.5 times that average. Let’s look at the concrete numbers.

Blue Card Salary Requirement - May 2025 to April 2026

The average salary from Blue Cards for the period of May 1, 2025 to April 30, 2026 was determined as 46 165 CZK a month, or 553 980 CZK a year. 

This means the salary needed for a Blue Card in this period of time is 46 165 x 1.5 = 69 248 CZK a month, or 553 980 x 1.5 = 830 970 CZK a year. 

Blue Card Salary Requirement - May 2026 to April 2027

The average salary from Blue Cards for the period of May 1, 2026 to April 30, 2027 was determined as 49 215 CZK a month, or 590 580 CZK a year. 

This means the salary needed for a Blue Card in this period of time is 49 215 x 1.5 = 73 823 CZK a month, or 590 580 x 1.5 = 885 870 CZK a year. 

What Does the Blue Card Salary Requirement Increasing Mean in Real Life

 Simply put: if you are applying for a Czech Blue Card or already hold one, your salary must not fall below the new minimum of 73,823 CZK. If it does, you must have it increased no later than May 1, 2026.

Here is how it affects you depending on your current status: 

New Blue Card Applicants

If you are currently gathering documents to apply for your Blue Card, ensure your employment contract shows at least 73,823 CZK per month. If it shows less, the Embassy may not accept your application. Even if they do, the Ministry of the Interior (MOI) will eventually request an updated contract. It’s always better to prevent complications than to fix them—ensure your contract is correct from the start! 

Blue Card Applicants That Are Currently in the Approval Process

If you have already submitted your application and are waiting for approval, you still need to ensure your salary meets the new minimum.

If your salary is already above 73,823 CZK, you’re all set.

If your salary is lower, you must get a contract amendment and deliver it to the MOI as soon as possible. They will not approve an application that doesn't meet the current requirements at the time of processing. 

Current Blue Card Holders 

The new salary level also applies to those who already hold a Blue Card. Even if you received your card based on a lower salary, your pay must be increased to at least 73,823 CZK by May 1, 2026.
